Pay Equity Update
Research assistants at McGill are one of the predominantly female job categories that are covered by Quebec pay equity legislation. The University began the 2020 pay equity maintenance assessment earlier this year and recently completed the participation process, a consultative process which allows affected employees (and unions) to share information, present observations, and ask questions. The participation process ended on May 11, 2026. McGill is supposed to post the results of the audit at least 60 days following the completion of the participation process – we expect this will be sometime in July or August. We will inform AMURE members of the results of this posting when they become available. You can read more about the process here.
General Assembly
The AMURE general assembly will be held virtually on Zoom at 5:30 pm on July 7, 2026. Attending members will be eligible to enter a raffle for five $100 gift cards to the vendor of their choice. AMURE President Sean Cory will follow up with details and a link to RSVP.
June Salary Increase
Eligible research employees received cost of living and step increases to their hourly rates on June 1st, 2026. Please check Workday and your most recent pay slip to make sure the increases were applied correctly to your hourly rate. If you have any questions, please contact AMURE President Sean Cory.
Summer Fridays
Summer Fridays for all full-time and part-time research assistants and associates began on Friday, June 26. The full schedule of Summer Fridays can be found on the University website. If you are required to work on a Summer Friday, you are entitled to either equivalent time off on another day or overtime pay. If you are a part-time employee, you are entitled to Summer Fridays on a pro-rated basis – that is, you are entitled to time off equivalent to one fifth of your weekly working hours.
AMURE Tip of the Month: Sick Leaves
AMURE Communications has put together a guide to help members navigate the various types of health-related leaves available to research employees. You can access the guide on our website.
